Hyderabad, October 05 (Gatla News): Several speakers asserted that the Viswakarma community should be treated as a single entity during the caste census, stating that it is unjust to enumerate them separately based on their specific professions. They emphasized that unity within the community is essential for gaining recognition. Kalidas, a journalist and JAC representative, spoke at a round-table meeting held at the Somajiguda Press Club, presided over by Adluri Ravindrachari, Co-convenor of the Viswakarma Community JAC. He highlighted the need for political consciousness within the community, alleging that they are being deliberately divided to prevent them from uniting to demand an MLC seat. He noted that the fragmentation into five distinct occupational groups—carpenters, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, brass/bronze smiths, and sculptors—results in an undercount of their population, thereby depriving them of government benefits. He also mentioned that many community members have already moved away from traditional occupations to establish themselves in various other sectors. In light of these developments, it was announced that JAC elections would be held on November 14. JAC representative Raghuveer and others participated in the meeting.
